Sleep Better

This audio CD aims to provide help in enabling you to sleep better through relaxing.  The presenter is Michael Reed Gach, PhD, founder and director of The Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California.  He guides the listener through acupressure, yoga, and deep breathing.  Gach's voice is very calming, and the exercises he guides the reader through are simple and helpful.  It sounds much like a great deal of other yoga or meditation self-help, but it has the virtue of being pretty sensible.  Gach emphasizes the role of stress in interfering in sleep, and so he promises that relaxing will help you get a better night's sleep.  He suggests that better sleep will make you more alert and will give you greater vitality, which is probably true.  He focuses on the tension in the upper back, shoulders and neck, and uses various methods to reduce that tension.  While these methods are rooted in ancient Chinese medicine, Gach explains them in very simple terms.  Of course, the crucial question is whether these exercises do in fact help you sleep, and that is likely to vary from person to person.  However, this is a relatively inexpensive product, and so if you are having trouble sleeping, it could well be worth trying the exercises here.
