Transform Yourself with Jivamukti Yoga

This DVD provides an hour long yoga workout, plus DVD bonus features of a demonstration of a facial massage of about 8 minutes and a very short demonstration of freestyle yoga.  The yoga workout is performed by David Life and Sharon Ganon in a nicely decorated room with a wooden floor, with a group of musicians behind them playing Indian music.  You can select to get a commentary by either David or Sharon -- I slightly prefer her voice.  So the production qualities are high.  The workout is appropriate for people who are already familiar with yoga, but it isn't very strenuous.  It starts out with a little chanting and then soon moves to sun salutations, ending with meditation and resting.  David and Sharon so demonstrate some modified versions of postures for people who lack their strength and flexibility, although some of those following along with them may find that they can't do the versions demonstrated either.  For example, they show a seated posture with one ankle placed on the knee of the other leg, and then leaning forward, and people without hip flexibility will not be able to move their torso much beyond the vertical.  They also demonstrate a full bridge, which requires a fair amount of flexibility in the spine as well as arm strength, but they don't say anything about what people who can't do this should do.  Near the end, they demonstrate a head stand, which is unusual for yoga DVDs, but they don't give any hints about how to build up to doing a full head stand -- it's better to have someone spotting you or do it against a wall, so it is easier to not fall over if losing one's balance.  Yet they do provide a nice yoga practice, and people who are comfortable in working out their own variations may well enjoy it.  It is especially strong in its emphasis on breathing slowly, and holding postures for five, ten or even 25 breaths.  With the nice production and elegant workout, this is the kind of yoga DVD that bears repeated use.
