Fred Devito and Elisabeth Halfpapp lead another in their Core Fusion series of DVD workouts. As with the others, it has five 10-minute sessions. These are:
1. Upper Body Core
2. Thigh and Gluteus Core
3. Flat Back/Round Back Core
4. Pure Core
5. Core Flexibility.
It is a nicely thought out workout; the first four sections are energetic and strength-building, with stretching at the end of each, while the last section combines relaxation and stretching. The only additional equipment you need is a yoga mat and a stretch belt. Both Devito and Halfpapp give instructions in voice over, and they each demonstrate easier variations of positions. As with the others, it is set in a nicely decorated studio with wooden floors and flowers, vases and other items in the background. The camera keeps in smooth motion and occasionally films from behind water flowing down a transparent screen, which is a nice effect. The only aspect of the production I don't much like is the banal electronic music in the background, and unfortunately while there is an option to turn off the spoken direction, it is not possible to have the voice-over without the music.
The workout focuses on core strength, especially in the abdomen, and also builds arm strength. They provide a good alternative to doing crunches at the gym, and the emphasis on combining strength with flexibility is very attractive. The workout is at an introductory to intermediate level, and it is easy for people who need to do a lot of work on their core to do these exercises. At the same time, they can be challenging and worthwhile for people who are already in good shape.
